Reflexology for Brides and Grooms

I ran into a blog that was talking about de-stressing brides. One of the suggestions was reflexology.

It brought up a lot of memories. A few years ago I was dragged quite literally into working on brides. An overly critical future mother-in-law had sent the bride into a form of panic attack. My cousin dragged me into the bride's dressing room to work on her feet.

I was able to bring the bride back to the moment. I received a special hug for my work and the wedding went off without any further incident.

What a nice moment to be able to calm a troubled bride. It reminds me of a quote for Complete Reflexology for Life.

Tired hands but no energy

After a long day at the office and your hands are tired from keyboarding or blackberrying or whatever, here is a simple way to rejuvenate your hands.

Simple take a hand held vibrating wand and simply hold it between your two hands. This is a simple way to break up the pattern of stress that forms in your hands over a long day.

Remember introducing a new signal helps the body reset it's stress mechanism. so the relaxation effect doesn't just stop with the hands.

Cheap Thursday

I have seen foot rollers with electronic keyboards carrying the hefty price tag of $500. There is even a $120,000 dollar foot roller made of solid gold This price was before the recent rise in gold prices. The good news is the silver version is only $5000.

But fear not. There are cheaper versions. And the cheapest I know is as close as your favorite golfer.

Get a couple of old golf balls. Their condition is not a issue. Drop them in an old sock. Tie a knot and you have a pretty good foot roller. The last bit is to keep the golf balls from rolling away.

There are all kinds of found objects that work as well. Conduct your own scavenger hunt and see what you can find.

But the funniest object used by a client of mine was an old coffee can. She loved to roll her feet on it at work. This worked well until the coffee can shot out from under her desk and came to a stop in front of her boss. He was a bit puzzled and she was more than a little embarrassed.

Foot People

I talked to a freelance writer today. She describe herself as a "foot person". It is interesting in my line of work just how many "foot people" you run into.

Years ago I used to contribute to a barefooters forum on the Internet. It was good practice for my writing plus I had a very appreciative audience.

These people dedicate themselves to the barefooted lifestyle. They researched all the laws in 50 states and found not a one actually had a law against driving without your shoes. They tested stores with policies against bare feet and fought them even at times in court.

But they also have social events like barefooted hiking. They felt a real kinship in their cause.

But what really cracked me up are pseudo-shoes that gave all the appearance of being real but were sole less. Or bottomless- whatever you prefer. When some of them couldn't overcome social policies that favored the shod over the unshod they used these fake shoes to stay firmly connected to the earth.

Is there a physiological drive among these people to unshod their feet? Could be.

My cousin as a young child took the unique approach of throwing her shoes overboard while traveling on a ferry going down the Charles River in Boston. The most telling part of this act of defiance is that these were very expensive shoes with custom orthotics built in because of her foot problems.

I guess she wanted a more natural approach. Barefooted.

Hacienda Antigua Inn

I am very pleased to announce that I am moving my practice to Hacienda Antigua Inn, an absolutely incredible location to do feet. Hacienda Antigua is located in the North Valley of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Hacienda Antigua dates back to 1790 and was at one time a trading post along the El Camino Real or the King's Highway. The old El Camino Real passes right in front of doors to this incredible inn.

Entering Hacienda Anitgua is liking stepping into another world. A large very old cottonwood towers over the placita, an open patio or space within a house. A portal surrounds the placita. A portal is a porch extending the length of a building or side of a placita; supported by columns. It was developed prior to air conditioning and keeps you cool during the midday sun. And there is nothing like the cool of a New Mexico night sitting under the portal and looking at the stars.

You are surrounded by antiques that reflect New Mexico's history. The flowers and greenery are an amazing foreground to the rustic terrone walls. The walls are not constructed of adobe but rather are carved from the riverbank of the Rio Grande. The terrones were 24" wide slabs of mud used to construct the building's walls.

The walls keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

And my favorite friends are the three roadrunners who walk these grand walls. You wondered how many generations of roadrunners have made this their home.

Tinnitus and Our Veterans

I didn't realize that Janna had included this testimonial when I read her email.

Spring Allergies

Early each spring we start to hear the complaints of terrible allergies. Each spring we try to help people with this simple hand reflexology technique.

This technique can be quite effective. One of our clients swore by it but with a proviso. He felt you had to do it daily for two weeks and your body would respond faster each time. Then after two weeks it was much easier to get them under control with just a quick application.

He carried around golf balls and our instructions which he had gotten permission to use from us.

The easiest way to do this technique is with a golf ball. But you can simply use your finger to press the area.




The first step is to locate the adrenal reflex area which is half way between the base of the thumb and the wrist.

Next rest the golf ball between your hands and roll it through the adrenal gland reflex area. Do it several times a day for at least 15-30 seconds. Some people work until the symptoms start to abate.




Note your reaction to the use of the golf. Your hand may become overly sensitized. If this happens give it a rest and work less when you resume.

Wild Oats Employee Nailed

In my last post I talked about the nail I discovered in my father's old boots.

This problem was brought to my attention with even newer shoes a few years ago. I used to do the employee benefit program for Wild Oats. It was a lot of fun to do and quite challenging.

I was leaving from the store after working on several employees. One of the employees I hadn't worked on stopped me. "You have to work on me. I have terrible sciatica and the pain is overwhelming." he said.

I just whipped open my portable chair right in the middle of his department. I had him sit down and take off his shoes and socks. He took off his shoes. I said,"Is the pain on the right side?"

He was quite puzzled that I knew which side it was on. I said, "That is easy. Your sock on your right foot has a perfect hole and the left one doesn't." With that I reach inside his brand new boots and found the culprit. It was a very sharp nail that apparently had been a misfire in the manufacturing process.

The employee had spent a lot of money on these boots and was quite angry about his defective boots. I said that that was the downside of assembly line shoe making. Even expensive shoes can be mishandled.

The nail was directly working on his sciatic nerve which stirrups around the heel. And the reason he didn't feel it in the foot reflected what my father learned. The foot has incredible pain killing abilities. Unfortunately that is not always a blessing. It can be a pain in the butt.

That Bloody Shoe

I was working on my father's feet one time when he decided to have me look at his shoes. I picked up his hiking boots and looked inside. I said, "How long have you worn these boots?" His reply was that he had worn them daily for 13 years.

My next question startled him. I asked if he noticed the brown stain in the bottom of the shoe. He said, "Yes I did notice that. What is it?" I replied, "Blood". He said "Blood? How did that get there?" I reached inside and found the nail that had worked it's way up through the footbed. It was sharp.

He hadn't realized that every time he took a step in these boots he was being jabbed by this nail. He was dumbfounded. "Why didn't I notice it?" he asked.

That part of the question was easy. One, the nail had worked it's way up gradually. And then the other factor is that the feet are very good at pain killing. This can backfire as the pain killing qualities sometimes mask what should be attended to before the blood starts to flow.

My mother could not believe what happened next. He eliminated 12 pairs of shoes that were will beyond their expiration date.
